Blush Sauce

I saw my roomate, Kaci, making a delicious looking pasta the other night, and I inquired as to what it is. "Just a blush sauce". A what? Apparently it's basically a tomato sauce with heavy cream. She said it was her go to, and it smelled heavenly, so I couldn't wait to try my hand at it. I found a recipe on Pinterest and got my ingredients. It turned out to be SO GOOD. It's very rich, as you may have guessed. I threw some chicken in there so I got my protein serving haha. Give it a whirl, it's pretty easy - Recipe here

Ready for action!

Boiling and simmering.

Crostini!

Came across this tasty treat on pinterest of course and had to give it a whirl. I feel like I baked my break a little too long, still getting the hang of my vintage oven's intensity, but otherwise this was DELICIOUS! I also found goat cheese with honey in it already so it was pretty effortless to make. Give it a whirl and make yourself some crostinis!

Food Goals

Doing a lot better on making new recipes this month! Made two new sandwiches and crepes!!

The first was a turkey pesto sandwich. It was just okay, didn’t blow me away. I think part of the problem was I was so hungry that I didn’t heat it long enough so the cheese didn’t melt haha, but eh, it was easy to make!

The second was delicious! I skipped making the pesto the recipe calls for so I imagine it would be even better with it, but I don’t have a food processor or blender so that’ll have to wait. I smooshed it against my skillet and made it panini like and it was a great quick after work pick me up!

The crepes were SO GOOD. I waited too long to make them, and some of my fruit went bad, but I had just enough for one breakfast and it was heavenly. It makes a LOT of batter so be prepared for a feast, or cut it in half or even a quarter if you’re dining alone, I ended up wasting a lot. I also ended up with some thick crepes but they were still awesome. I smothered those babies with nutella and stuck some fruit in them and devoured. A lot cheaper than the ones at the market(but a bit more labor intensive so what can ya do?)

366 Project - Week 1

I started a 365 project on a whim with the start of the new year, which I think will actually be a 366 because it’s a leap year right? Nothing fancy, just a push to make sure I use my camera’s more often and try to stay creative and look at life from all angles to find beauty everywhere. This is what I captured on the first week of 2016!
1/366 - Dinner at Taqueria Mixteca with Sophie!

2/366 - Night out at the movies with friends.

3/366 - Reading this magazine Sophie got me after work.

4/366 - Dinner with sweet Barry after work.

5/366 - Family dinner for Dad's Birthday
6/366 - I got a hyacinth bulb from kroger in a jar of water for $2.50 and it's already bloomed. It makes my room smell heavenly, and it feels like Spring is just around the corner.

7/366 - My new Rifle Paper co Agenda arrived!

Dad's Birthday Sushi Adventure

For my Dad’s birthday this year we got the idea to take him to a sushi restaurant because he’d never had it. I loved the idea because a.) sushi is one of my favorite things to eat and b.) shopping for Dad can be hard sometimes haha. Plus seeing him try sushi would be a fun experience as well! For a moment I thought the plans were falling through because things kept coming up, and I thought we were going to have to do the dinner a different day and just hang out at their house for the evening. On my way over to their house though they called and said the plans were back on so I turned around and we all met up at Chloe’s Asian Gourmet.
I was a little nervous because Dad had no idea what he wanted or what would sound good, so I decided on a sort of sampler platter that had a little of everything along with a coconut shrimp roll because its my favorite and I’d been craving it. Mom and Duke ordered a cooked dish called the “happy family” to share which sounded so appropriate. Everything was so delicious!! Dad was very brave although hesitant at first, and tried everything, even the eel. I think everyone liked the coconut shrimp the best, especially Duke who loves fried things haha. It had tempura so of course it was right up his alley.
My family is so silly and fun, Duke got the giggles reliving an experience he had with a friend at school which made us all crack up as well, and we were all laughing until our sides hurt. I had such an awesome time, and I think everyone did, so I’m glad our plans ended up working out! Happy Birthday, Dad!!

Becky Home-eccy

I made a list of fall/winter goals so as to keep myself busy and not fall into some sort of seasonal depressive episode. One of my goals is to try new recipes, and I've already surpassed my goal(three a month) and I'm feeling pretty proud of myself! I got my ingredients and some new mason jars and went to town. The first thing I made was overnight oats, recipe found here: click!

pre-raspberries and almonds!

Very easy and fast to make, and very yummy. I had enough to make the recipe about three times, and each made about two servings.
Then I made rice krispy treats, which is not a new recipe, but it was still fun to make with my little helper, and very delicious.

I googled to find the recipe for the hungarian mushroom soup we used to serve at the coffee shop I worked at in Alaska, and I couldn't believe I found it! It tasted just like it, it was delicious nostalgia haha. The recipe is here, and it is soooo good.

I will say the parsley was awful, skip that step. It looks pretty but yuck haha.

I'll keep you posted as I try new recipes! If anyone has any recommendations I'd love to hear, I'm just looking through pins on pinterest in the meantime :)
